Zemu Glacier
Zemu Glacier is the largest glacier in the eastern Himalaya, draining the eastern slopes of Kangchenjunga in Sikkim, India; it is approximately 26 km long (estimates vary) and feeds several rivers.
The glacier has been observed to retreat and fragment in recent decades, with thinning and reduced area documented in regional studies. Warming temperatures, altered precipitation, and changing monsoon patterns influence its mass balance, raising concerns about water resources and glacial hazards in downstream communities.
