Shafat Glacier
Shafat Glacier is a smaller glacier in the Karakoram/Hindu Kush region (northern Pakistan/Afghanistan) — names and spellings vary in local maps. As with many mountain glaciers in this complex range, its size is modest compared with major icefields and it occupies high-elevation valleys.
Glacier behavior in this region is heterogeneous: some glaciers are stable or advancing due to local climatic and topographic factors, while others are thinning. Shafat’s local mass-balance trends depend on precipitation patterns and temperature, and local monitoring or satellite data would be needed for precise statements about its recent change.
