Kjerulf Glacier

Kjerulfbreen (Kjerulf Glacier) is a tidewater glacier on Svalbard (Norway) or alternatively referenced among Arctic glaciers depending on naming; it is one of many outlet glaciers along Svalbard’s coasts. Such glaciers are generally characterized by seasonal flow and calving behavior. Arctic glaciers, including those on Svalbard, have shown strong responses to recent warming: many have thinned and retreated, and increased ocean temperatures have enhanced submarine melting and calving. Local monitoring indicates variable but overall negative mass balances for many Arctic outlet glaciers.
